Guesthouse

Would you like to live authentic village life in Malawi?

Anyone who travels through Malawi as a tourist sees real local life only from a distance. At Nazareth you can experience authentic village life in person. You can stay at Nazareth and explore the surroundings from there. Josefa will accompany you at your travels and will get you acquainted with all the aspects of daily village life. What is the staple food? How is it cultivated and prepared? How do people live in a mud hut? Join in fetching water from the borehole, cooking food on a wood fire, working the fields, playing with the children, dancing with the women…….

You are most welcome at Nazareth! Nazareth is a place for spiritual and human development. We are happy to receive guests who want to share our daily life at our beautiful, simple and restful place Nazareth.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

Nazareth consists of two houses, with a total of four guestrooms for a maximum of nine people.

The main house has 2 guest rooms, a large living cum dining room and a kitchen. Toilet and (hot) shower are located behind the building in the courtyard. There is a large veranda and a gazebo where you can sit, with a view of our garden.
The guest house also has 2 guest rooms, with a shared living room and toilet and (hot) shower. There is a terrace at the back, and a veranda with beautiful views of the mountains at the front.

There is no electricity. We use solar lamps in the evening. It is possible to charge telephones and other devices via solar panels. There is no refrigerator.

As our guest you are part of our household. We like to cater according to your needs. We eat together in the dining room at a large table. The food is freshly prepared, as much as possible with products from our own garden. Josefa has a lot of cooking fantasy. The food is varied and a mix between local and international.

WHAT DO WE ASK FROM YOU?

Nazareth lies on the edge of an agricultural village community in a very rural area. The people live in simple, self-built houses and have no electricity and no running water. They also have no television and do not read a newspaper.

We ask you to wear appropriate clothing when you enter the village. For women, this means wearing long skirts. We can also borrow you a chitenje: the wrapping cloth that the local women traditionally wear. We advise men to wear long trousers, or shorts that reach the knees. This is not an obligation but a form of respect. We also like to advise you on the rules of respect in greeting and dealing with village customs.

CONTRIBUTION
We ask for a contribution to our costs of 30 euros per person per day, full board.
Bed linen and towels are included.

If you want to make use of transport by means of our pick-up (with driver) we ask 20 euro cents per kilometer as a compensation.
